“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15 ESV
Eleanor Dorcas Sims, 98, met her Savior face to face on July 27, 2026.
Eleanor was born on February 17, 1928, in Zambia, Africa to missionary parents, Wallace and Ruth Logan. As a young girl, she learned that Jesus loved her so much that He died on the cross for her sin. In response to this good news, she believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and received Him as her personal Savior, kindling a lifelong desire to serve the Lord as a missionary.
She married John Alan Sims, a young missionary man, at Chavuma, Zambia, and together they faithfully served the Lord for over 50 years first in Zambia and later in Zimbabwe. They raised six children, all of whom were born on the mission field.
Eleanor’s passion in life was to share about her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation He has provided for all who believe in Him. She spiritually mentored local women, taught Scripture in schools and, alongside her husband, encouraged and interacted with numerous students as they completed Bible correspondence courses.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, and beloved husband, John. She is survived by her six children, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many spiritual children.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Pittsboro Christian Village for their exceptional and loving care.
A service of thanksgiving to God for Eleanor's life and a celebration of His faithfulness will be held at Pittsboro Christian Village in Pittsboro, North Carolina, on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
