Shirley Routh Atkins, 82, of Randleman passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026 surrounded by her family at home.

A Celebration of Life service will take place in the coming days and will be announced soon.

Shirley was born in Randolph County on January 13, 1944 to the late Roland and Margie Underwood Routh. She had a strong work ethic, worked at Laughlin Hosiery Mill for 30 plus years, and was a member of Followers of Jesus Church where she got saved many years ago. Shirley had a sweet spirit, was full of personality, and could put anyone in their place in her own special way. Spending time with her family was something she treasured, and often times it centered around her homecooked meals, pinto beans, fried potatoes and her family’s favorite, homemade biscuits. She loved flowers, but there was nothing as special to her as a yard sale find, and you can believe she was never going to pay full price.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Walter Atkins, her daughter, Holly Jonah Pugh, granddaughter, Jessica Dawn Atkins, brothers, Lonnie Ray and Nick Routh, as well as her daughter-in-law, Patricia Atkins. She is survived by her longtime friend and husband, Roger East of the home, children, Billy Edward Atkins and wife Kim of Randleman, Thomas Allen Atkins of Randleman, Debbie Ann Martin and husband John Martin, Jr. of Coleridge, Danny Ray Atkins, Sr., of Randleman as well as 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
